The Body Shop is a British ethical cosmetics and skincare brand founded in 1976 by Dame Anita Roddick in Brighton, England. A pioneer in cruelty-free beauty, fair trade sourcing, and environmental activism, the company built a global presence around natural body care, iconic skincare lines (such as its Shea Body Butter and Tea Tree range), and social campaigning.
Following a corporate transition from L'Oréal (2006–2017) and Natura &Co (2017–2023) to private equity group Aurelius, the brand's UK business entered administration in early 2024. In September 2024, investment firm Auréa Group—led by Mike Jatania and former Molton Brown CEO Charles Denton—acquired the company out of administration. Today, The Body Shop operates a restructured physical store footprint alongside an expanded global e-commerce platform.
