What started with weekends taking heavy collisions on the pitch in semi-professional rugby league and then training under brutal loads to earn an international rank in Strongman, finished with a clear realisation: like thousands of active sportsmen and women across the UK, the toughest part of elite sport was never the physical strain or the long recovery hours it was keeping my head above water financially while trying to perform at the absolute highest level.

I lived the relentless grind of balancing a full-time workload with double-session days, all while paying out-of-pocket for essential kit, high-grade nutrition, entry fees, and physio. The reality for most athletes isn't glory and big sponsorship's; it's sacrifice, trade-offs, and calculating every pound spent to keep the dream alive.

Looking around at my teammates on the rugby pitch and fellow strongmen in the gym and at competitions, I saw the exact same story playing out. These were world-class competitors, national champions, and relentless grassroots athletes, all operating on a shoestring budget. We were spending hundreds of pounds a month on the very products that allowed us to perform, while the brands behind those products were desperate to reach dedicated, high-intent consumers like us.

The mainstream sports world loves to celebrate the top 1% of funded celebrities with multi-million-pound endorsement deals. But the true heart of the sporting community the hundreds of thousands of active competitors, coaches, and club members grinding week in, week out were being left to pay full retail price for the very products keeping them in the game

I thought of the idea of a platform that could support athletes out of pure necessity. I wanted to eliminate the unfair financial friction standing between dedicated competitors and their athletic potential giving every athlete, coach, and club in our community the direct brand support and affordable access they needed to keep chasing their goals.

There was only one problem: I had no idea how to bridge that gap, or indeed how to start a business that would do just that.

_{From a Conversation Between Friends to a Shared Mission}

The concept of Athlete Access, and eventually the business itself, started with a simple conversation between two friends about the reality facing athletes today. It was born out of shared experience and discussed between two high-functioning athletes who were genuinely keen to make a difference.

We both knew how difficult it can be for athletes to access the funding and financial support they need, particularly when trying to balance training, competing, education, and everyday life.

Suddenly, instead of just an idea, there was a partnership and then a team, all determined to do something about it.

We started asking ourselves a simple question: What could we create that would genuinely help athletes save money and make their funding go further?

That’s when the vision for Athlete Access was truly born. Inspired by similar platforms for students or key workers, we began exploring the idea of creating a dedicated discount and benefits platform built specifically for athletes a place where competitors could access exclusive discounts, offers, and savings from leading brands and businesses, helping reduce the everyday costs that come with pursuing their sport.

The mission was simple: eliminate the financial friction that stands between a dedicated athlete and their true potential.

What started as a conversation between two friends quickly grew into a much bigger vision: to build a community that supports athletes beyond the court, gym, track, pitch, or field.
